Russia successfully tests engine for vertical takeoff, landing
MOSCOW, Feb 4 (PRIME) -- A superconductor electrical engine for a vertical takeoff and landing air taxi has been tested successfully in Moscow, a spokesperson for the Russian Foundation for Advanced Research Projects told PRIME on Monday.
“Successful demo tests of a 500-kilowatt high-temperature superconductor electrical engine have been performed in Moscow’s Central Institute of Aviation Motors. The engine is a joint project of the foundation and SuperOx innovation startup,” the statement read.
The engines may be used in fully-electrical or hybrid propulsion units of commuter planes, perspective rotor-wing aircraft and vertical takeoff and landing air taxis.
